Monochrome Explosion
Originally uploaded by msroest.
This weekend Jeff,Mika, Kyle, and Ryan all met at Wes’s place for more experiments in high speed photography. Wes had spent some time in the previous weeks making a shooting table to give us a seamless background for our splashening experiments. I think it increased the quality of the pictures out of this get together by alot. The fact that the backgrounds in all the shots are nice and clean with no distractions give the shots that much more impact. I’ve posted one of my favorites here, the rest of my shots are available in this flickr set.
The rest of the weekend was the same old same old doing a whole lot of nothing. Except I’ve finally made the decision that I’m going to be getting a canine companion. I’m probably going to head to the SPCA this weekend to scout and see if anyone there catches my eye, it’s all together possible that I’ll have a pet for the BBQ on Saturday.

Meercat Sitting like People

Quick snap I took at the zoo on the 13th (yes it took me a long time to take the pics of the camera). I thought it was cool cause the one meercat was totally sitting like a person would. Leaning up against a rock enjoying the sun.

Single

Last night Jeff, Mika, Kyle and myself got together at Jeff’s place to do some more high speed photography. This time instead of breaking stuff we set about to make liquid sculptures. Ours didn’t turn out nearly as nice as the ones from that site, but given that we’re using a much simpler setup then he is I’m happy with our results. I think this one I’ve posted is my favorite of the lot, the single pink drop hovering over the milk coming up from the surface. With the reflection in the dish makes is look really cool.

White Wolf

This image was my submission this month for the CPS theme of Eye(s). The image itself turned out pretty decently when it was printed but I think I should have entered it into the open category as it only scored a 6.6. I did get some good suggestions from the judges about how to make the eyes stand out more indluding using photoshop to adda catchlight, and also just punching up the eyes so they glow. It’s really my own fault being that I didn’t post process as much as I maybe should have. But overall I’m pleased with the print, I think I just categorized it incorrectly.
